Davyhulme Ward Councillor and Executive member June Reilly keenly encouraged this project despite documented reservations and investigation by the messenger; nonetheless Cllr Reilly was optimistic of its now clear success which gives her tremendous pride because she has been able to directly help her community.

Local Labour Party abandons Davyhulme voters by failing to run a candidate in the local elections

Davyhulme West ward residents were today rocked by the news that the Labour Party has shunned local voters by not fielding a candidate in for the local elections. The list of nominated candidates has just been put up on the Council website (click here):

Davyhulme West ward was won by the Labour Party in 1980, 1981 (by-election), 1984, 1986, 1995 & 1998.

Stretford and Urmston Parliamentary candidate, Alex Williams, said:

"This amazing news shows that the Labour Party locally really have abandoned Davyhulme residents. How can they claim to want to represent all residents if they can't even field a candidate in a ward that they previously held."

"Residents are warming to our message of positive change. We don't have to put up with another 5 years of Gordon Brown or the London parliamentary candidate that he wants to impose on us."

Alex Williams seeks protection for local healthcare services as Trafford General is branded financially 'under performing'

Alex Williams is concerned about the impact on patients and healthcare services at Trafford General as the birthplace of the NHS faces a battle to plug a £6m shortfall. Trafford Healthcare Trust has been branded 'under performing' by the Labour Government and is being placed in financial special measures.

Conservative prospective MP for Stretford and Urmston, Alex Williams, has raised serious concerns about the future of services at Trafford General following the news that Trafford Healthcare Trust will overspend by £6.1m this year.

Speaking with local Councillors and residents outside Trafford General in Urmston, Alex said:

"I am very concerned about the potential impact that the financial special measures will have on services for patients at Trafford General. This was the birthplace of the NHS 61 years ago.''

"We have already seen the closure of the maternity and special care baby units at Trafford General. We need to make sure that the remaining services are unaffected by the Government's 'under-performing' label - the hospital has excellent clinical standards. I am particularly concerned about talk of:

'We have been working together on longer-term plans to bring the local health economy back into balance in 2010/11'; and

'It is a challenging financial environment for the Trafford health economy as a whole'.''

"I want to understand what this news will mean for patient care and services for local people ASAP. I have contacted the Heathcare Trust and PCT to arrange an urgent meeting.''
