Trafford Council is celebrating after securing a multi-thousand-pound grant to revamp Longford Park.

A £50,000 cash prize was awarded to the local authority after the scheme won a public vote in the Big Lottery Fund's The People's Millions contest.

Under the renovation project, the park's wilting green spaces will be transformed into beautiful gardens, water will be restored to the ornamental rock area and an educational pack for schools will be produced.

Executive councillor Jonathan Coupe said: 'I am delighted that our bid was successful and would like to thank everyone who voted. The Friends group, local schools and Council staff put a lot of hard work into this campaign and I'm now looking forward to seeing the project come to life.

'The council will continue to work with partners to secure more funding for projects like this one.'

According to the organisers behind the initiative, the project is one of several lined up to improve the park.
